One of the challenges of any film is the budget and a documentary is no different. Our budget is around $15,000 which by anyone’s standard is inexpensive, especially considering that includes equipment purchases. One good thing about a documentary is that the “subjects” should not be paid, this keeps it “real”.
For this documentary we are adding an additional $2000 budget after the initial shooting is done to add a section where we will be able to use that $2000 to change the kids life that we meet. To do this I hope to use the services of kickstarter.com and I am in the process of submitting them my proposal and hopefully that will go through and all of you will have a chance to participate in the project.
So this documentary will absolutely be the biggest thing I’ve done in my life as far as the amount of time, energy, and discipline I am having to put into it. It’s fun, challenging and at the same time nerve racking. One of the things that has helped me get through it are “coaching” sessions. A friend of mine, Mark Alexander, is training to become a professional “coach” and I am his trial client (he has to rack up some hours before certification). Coaching is kind of like life consulting and he has helped me tremendously get my mind organized for this thing. So this post will serve as a big thanks to Mark and an affirmation to the whole coaching process.
Hey all, here is the High Def video I was telling you about, pretty amazing, encoded to H.264 and ran through a Magic Bullet Quick Looks. The camera is a Kodak Play-Sport.
Took Abby and my parents to a water fountain in a shopping area where a bunch of kids play. Brought one of the cameras purchased for the documentary to test out. It’s a little Kodak $100 waterproof HD video camera, pretty amazing, will post some video tomorrow. On a side note, it’s way too hot in Texas in July.
Hi all, just wanted to let you know that I am in Dallas visiting my parents and picking up the equipment to be used for the documentary this summer. I will start giving daily blog updates from today until the end of this project. Upcoming things will include the budget as well as a way for you to directly get involved in the life of a child in need. Please stay tuned, seeya tomorrow!
